Please consider joining us for praise and worship. We would love to have you. The scripture speaks of assembling ourselves together. He also promised He would be in the midst where two or three are gathered together in His Name.
At Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, we believe in the Holy Trinity, the divinity of Jesus Christ, and the authority of the Bible. We also believe in the power of prayer and the importance of living out our faith in our daily lives.
Established in 1874, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of our community for 149 years. We have a rich history of serving others and sharing the message of Christ with all who will listen.
On June 21, 1874, Pleasant Grove became a Baptist church, a body of baptized believers in Christ, How they came to take the name “Pleasant Grove” is not known.
The church was organized by the late Rev. B.M. Callaway and Rev. S. L. Johnson. The land for the church site was given to the colored people by the late Tom Willis in 1873. The first meeting house was a brush arbor, where services were held until a house could be built. The first building was a log cabin with a homemade altar, benches and a few chairs. The first pastor was Rev. Silas Johnson, who was elected in 1874 and served many years.
The log cabin was eventually replaced by a frame building. In later years the present building was erected. Many improvements and additions have been made since this house was built.
Our church is led by a team consisting of a dedicated pastor and lay leaders who are committed to serving our congregation and community. Meet our leadership team and learn more about their roles and responsibilities.
